If you tap your phone on the restaurant's NFC card and don't get a stamp in the Cluby app, the cause is usually easy to fix. This guide walks through the most common reasons and what you can do to get the stamping working.
Quick checklist
Run through these quickly — most of the time the problem is fixed with one of them:
Your phone is unlocked — a locked phone can't read NFC
NFC is turned on in your phone's settings
You're signed in to the Cluby app with the same account you use to collect stamps for the Stamp Pass
The Cluby app is updated to the latest version from the App Store or Google Play
Hold your phone close to the card — on some phones the NFC reader is at the top of the back cover
How NFC stamping is meant to work
Unlock your phone (you don't need to open the Cluby app separately)
Tap your phone on the restaurant's NFC card
A Cluby NFC pop-up appears on your phone
Tap the pop-up — the stamp registers automatically
💡 If the pop-up doesn't appear within a couple of seconds, try moving your phone a bit relative to the card — the NFC reader can be at the top or the back of the phone.
Most common reasons and fixes
Your phone's screen is locked
NFC doesn't work when your phone is locked. Unlock it before tapping the card.
NFC is turned off (especially on Android)
Check your phone's NFC setting:
Android: Settings → Connections → NFC (the exact location can vary by manufacturer)
iPhone: NFC is enabled automatically — iPhone 7 and later support NFC tap
Battery saver mode is on
On some phones, battery saver mode turns NFC off. Switch battery saver off for a moment to stamp, then try again.
A thick phone case
A thick or metal case can block the NFC signal. Try taking the case off briefly and tapping again.
The Cluby app is out of date
Update the Cluby app to the latest version. Go to the App Store or Google Play and update Cluby.
You're not signed in
Open the Cluby app and make sure you're signed in with the same account you used when you started collecting stamps for the pass. Use the same email or phone number.
Where the NFC antenna sits on your phone
The NFC reader isn't in the same place on every phone:
iPhone: at the top of the back cover (near the rear cameras)
Samsung and other Android phones: usually at the top or middle of the back — depends on the model
If the first tap doesn't work, move your phone slowly against the card — the antenna picks up the card best from a few centimetres away.
If nothing helps — ask staff to add the stamp at the till
If the NFC tap won't work after a few tries, ask the venue's staff to add the stamp manually. They can add the stamp to your account directly from Partner Hub.
💡 Mention to the staff:
That you're using a Cluby Stamp Pass
Which Stamp Pass you're collecting (e.g. "Lunch Pass")
That NFC isn't working on your phone
Staff can find you in the Member register and may be able to add the stamp.
Still need help?
If NFC stamping doesn't work in several restaurants and the steps above don't fix it, get in touch with Cluby support from the app:
Open the Cluby app → My profile → Settings → Contact support
In your message include: your phone model, your operating system version (e.g. iOS 18 or Android 14), and which restaurant you were trying to stamp at
