If you tap your phone on the restaurant's NFC card and don't get a stamp in the Cluby app, the fix is usually simple. This guide covers the most common reasons and what you can do so stamping works.
Quick checklist
Run through these quickly — most of the time this solves it:
Your phone is on and unlocked — a locked phone can't read NFC
NFC is turned on in your phone's settings
You're signed in to the Cluby app with the same account you've been collecting stamps on
The Cluby app is updated to the latest version from the App Store or Google Play
Hold your phone close to the card — on some phones the NFC reader is at the top of the back cover
How NFC stamping should work
Unlock your phone (you don't need to open the Cluby app separately)
Tap your phone against the restaurant's NFC card
The stamp registers:
On iPhone: a Cluby NFC pop-up appears — tap it, and the stamp registers automatically
On Android: the stamp registers automatically without a separate pop-up — you'll see your balance grow straight in the app
💡 If nothing happens within a few seconds, try shifting the phone slightly against the card — the NFC reader may be at the top or the back of your phone.
Most common reasons and fixes
Your phone screen is locked
NFC doesn't work if the phone is locked. Unlock the screen before tapping the phone on the card.
NFC is turned off (especially on Android)
Check the NFC setting on your phone:
Android: Settings → Connections → NFC (the location may vary by manufacturer)
iPhone: NFC is on automatically — iPhone 7 and newer support NFC tapping
Battery-saver mode is on
On some phones, battery-saver mode turns NFC off. Switch battery saver off briefly for stamping and try again.
Thick phone case
A thick or metal phone case can block the NFC signal. Try taking the case off briefly and tap again.
The Cluby app is outdated
Update the Cluby app to the latest version. Go to the App Store or Google Play and update Cluby.
You aren't signed in
Open the Cluby app and make sure you're signed in with the same account you originally started the Stamp Pass on. Use the same email address or phone number.
Location of your phone's NFC antenna
The NFC reader isn't in the same spot on every phone:
iPhone: at the top of the back cover (near the rear cameras)
Samsung and other Android phones: usually at the top or the middle of the back cover — depending on the model
If the first tap doesn't work, move your phone slowly against the card — the antenna finds the card best within a couple of centimetres.
If nothing helps — ask staff for the stamp
If NFC tapping doesn't work despite several attempts, ask the restaurant's staff to give you the stamp manually. They can add the stamp to your account directly from their system.
💡 Let staff know:
That you're using a Cluby Stamp Pass
Which Stamp Pass you're collecting (e.g. "Lunch Pass")
That NFC isn't working on your phone
Staff will find you in the Members register and can add the stamp.
Still need help?
If NFC stamping doesn't work at the restaurant, the restaurant can't add the stamp manually, and the above tips didn't fix it, get in touch with Cluby support through the app:
Open the Cluby app → My profile → Settings → Send feedback
In your message, tell us: your phone's model, the OS version (e.g. iOS 18 or Android 14), and which restaurant you were trying to stamp at
Also share your name, email address and phone number
